Art Association of Bacolod-Negros Logo Remastered

According to one of the original members of the Art Association of Bacolod (not yet reincorporated with its new name AAB-Negros), Edbon Sevilleno discloses that the original logo was designed by the late cartoonist Ely Santiago.

It starts with a brush tip and extends upwards forming a wavy cursive writing of AAB in one stroke.

However, as there were no digital copies in the old days, the AAB logo that we usually see to day (before this remastered and digitized version) is a product of years and years of manual copy+paste and endless photocopies of several versions of the AAB logo from blurred photocopies, thus the fuzzy image.

Thus Edbon being also a digital graphic artist came up with a remastered AAB logo which is closest to the intentions of the old guards of the Art Association of Bacolod.

Dave Palanca

Dave Palanca's art career started when he joined the Pintor Kulapol Art Group Exhibit at West Negros College in 1996. He then participated in the Earth Day Art Jam painting exhibition at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in 1998. In 2001 he entered in the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Contest.

A scion of a conservative elite clan, Dave in his late 40's emerges as the artist of the family. Ironically, his social realist style often depicts the farm laborers of Negros, typical scenes of his childhood visits to the haciendas.

Having finished pre-law in Ateneo and Nursing in Riverside College, Dave is able to separate his equally distinct courses from his art, as he insists that his precise anatomical drawings in school are totally different from his sacada artworks of people who are often depicted with enveloping arms and contorted face and feet.

AAB Group Photo Circa 2008

Happy as it may seem, this is an AAB-Negros group pictorial that sparked a mini controversy that caused the walk out of its president, not in photo of course.
